William "Ken" Ebel was a graduate of Heidelberg College, Tiffin, Ohio, and the Case Institute of Technology, and while working as an aircraft engineer for Glenn L. Martin, he designed and tested  the Pan American Airways China Clipper, the Russian Clipper, and the WWII Martin Marauder B-26, for which he served as test pilot for its first flight.

Ebel dedicated his career to aviation design and engineering, serving as a consultant for General Dynamics in Washington until 1963, when he retired and began operating the Mount Pleasant orchards with his wife, Helen.
